I welcome today's announcement that the tender to establish and operate a new Melton Headspace youth mental health centre has been awarded to a consortium led by Odyssey House Victoria.

I have lobbied for many years now for this Headspace to service the residents of my electorate. After many letters to Ministers and speeches in parliament, I am thrilled by the news that the new service will be established later this year. Frankly it should have happened earlier.

This youth mental health service is something our community needs and deserves. Mental health issues affect many young people, and previously those who live in Melton and surrounding areas have had to travel too far to access the services they need.

This new facility will complement and expand upon the excellent work done by Orygen Youth Health in Headspace centres in Sunshine, Glenroy, Craigieburn and Werribee.

I congratulate the Odyssey House Victoria consortium which includes Djerriwarrh Health Services, MacKillop Family Services, cohealth Ltd and Youth Projects.

I look forward to visiting the centre when it opens.

We'll Put People First.
