LABOR FORCES GOVERNMENT TO DEBATE ITS OWN BILL

04 Dec 2017

Labor has successfully forced the Government to bring on the Fair Work Amendment (Repeal of 4 Yearly Reviews and Other Measures) Bill 2017 as a priority for Monday 4th December.

Despite Senator Cash insisting that debating and passing the 4 Yearly Review Bill is a Government priority, they refused to bring it on for debate and have opposed Labor’s motion to do so.

If this was a bill to attack workers and unions, Minister Cash wouldn’t hesitate to bring it on, but unfortunately for the government, and fortunately for workers, the Senate has voted to force the Government to debate the bill first thing on Monday.

Labor has always indicated its support for the repeal of 4 Yearly Reviews and Other Measures Bill, so the question must be asked – why is Minister Cash delaying, and what is she hiding from?

There’s one thing we know the government is running away from, and that is Labor’s commitment to give the Senate every opportunity to join with us and protect penalty rates, which we will do through this bill on Monday.
