TURNBULL GOVERNMENT’S YOUTH JOBS PaTH TO UNPAID WORK

27 Oct 2017

Senate Estimates this week revealed that Minister Cash has failed to reclaim the $1000 of taxpayers’ money paid to a coffee chain that had been caught underpaying workers as part of Senator Cash’s exploitative Youth Jobs PaTH Program.

This is yet another example of Turnbull and his Liberals rewarding unscrupulous employers and punishing innocent workers.

SENATOR CAMERON: Did the cafe Espresso Lane in Wollert - did it have to refund the $1000 upfront government payment for breaching the contract?

DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYMENT ASSISTANT SECRETARY: It didn’t Senator no.
Senate Estimates, Wednesday, 25 October 2017

By failing to direct her Department to reclaim the money from Expresso Lane Coffee, Minister Cash has allowed a big franchise to be rewarded for the underpayment of young workers.

Not only is the PaTH program exploitative, it is now rewarding employers for completely ripping off young workers.

This is complete incompetence from a Minister who this week misled the Senate 5 times over a different matter, personally approved an indemnity for the legal fees for the disgraced former ABCC Commissioner, and had to confess that her office leaked sensitive information about a police raid to the media.
